Digital Foundry experts shared their point of view regarding rumors about possible remasters of Horizon: Zero Dawn and Days Gone
Experts believe that both games do not need remasters at all. John Linneman suggests that Sony decided to make them in between big games in an attempt to make some money, but the choice of projects for remasters turned out to be extremely strange:
I don’t like the idea at all. They probably decided to pursue it since new games take a lot more time to develop nowadays. But these games don’t need remasters or remakes. Not one bit.
The graphics in Horizon: Forbidden West are better than the original game, but that’s no reason to create a remaster or remake. It’s normal for the first installment to be worse than the sequel graphically. Horizon Zero Dawn is still a very beautiful game. Many players have already passed it and I don’t know what the developers can offer them to get them to come back to it.
Days Gone is a great game with interesting and original mechanics and it has held up well to 2024. That said, it already supports 60 fps and looks great on both PS5 and PC, so it doesn’t need a remaster at all.
Digital Foundry hopes that if Sony does do a Days Gone remaster, it won’t be a simple remaster with minor graphics improvements, but something like the Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut with additional content – then it would make some sense.
Digital Foundry believes that instead of remasters of Horizon Zero Dawn and Days Gone, Sony would be better off remastering their older projects, such as the Killzone trilogy, which is currently only available on PS3.
